What a summer it has been. First, there was an earthquake in Osaka, then a heat wave, then another earthquake in Hokkaido. Not to mention that, in the midst of all this, there have been more “super typhoons” and “unstoppable typhoons” than you could shake a stick at. It seems like every few weeks I am bringing in the plants from the porch only to then sweep up the beer cans that have flown in from the neighbors’.
And it is at these uncertain times that I search for comfort in food. Preferably, something rich and decadent. And I don’t mean to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but it does seem as if the Family Mart increases its stock of cakes and puddings when a typhoon is imminent. Needless to say, I am particularly susceptible. And If I’m being honest, I’m tempted by the dessert fridge regardless of the weather. But, in my defense, I am rarely disappointed.
I certainly was not disappointed by this tiramisu. Made with Hokkaido mascarpone and a generous splash of brandy this was a fabulous option for a rainy day. It was rich and sweet, sprinkled with coffee and topped with cream. And it was surprisingly substantial – the packaging looks smaller from the outside, but once you dig in, you realize that they have not skimped on the desert. It’s probably enough tiramisu for two.
In theory.
I suppose.
