There is nothing like an unidentifiable loaf of animal flesh on a bed of rice and mayonnaise to bring out your inner gourmand. It’s my own fault from straying from the path of tuna mayonnaise, salmon flakes, pickled plum and all the other old standbys in the onigiri shelf – I really should have known better. But variety is the spice of life so today the spice of life is mystery meat.
I shouldn’t be such a snob. I love me a saucy meat conglomerate now and then. And, to be fair, this onigiri wasn’t that bad. It was exactly what I wanted in a quick meal on my way somewhere. That being said, I’m still not convinced that “minced chicken and pork” isn’t code for “minced pigeon and rat,” though I’m not against eating some of the local wildlife now and then. After all, “locally sourced” is better for the earth.
