While other shopping centers have a kids’ play area, the ICA down the street has a grandma station – and I love it. Even though it’s a fairly small grocery store, it still puts out two big easy chairs, a coffee dispenser, and a bowl full of Singoalla cookies free of charge to anyone who needs to relax mid-shop. And it was on one such coffee break that I discovered the wonders of licorice and raspberry.

Now, it goes without saying that if you don’t like licorice or you don’t like raspberry, this is not the cookie for you. But if either of these flavors are anywhere close to palatable for you, then you absolutely need to try them together. I was a skeptic until I reached into the complimentary cookie bowl and unknowingly tried this cookie, but from the first bite, I was immediately hooked. To take a page from the pretentious language of wine: the tart, tangy “high notes” of the raspberry and the sweet aromatic “low notes” of the licorice complement each other perfectly. Put that into cookie form and you’ve got dessert gold. Pair that with a cup of coffee, and you’ve got the best part of your day.
