I’m not sure if this “special tea” is a new thing or if I just haven’t noticed it until now, but either way, I have suddenly started seeing this tea everywhere. A clue as to why came from my Japanese co-worker, who admitted to paying 30-50 yen extra for this special tea because it would help her lose weight. Sure enough, at the top of the bottle this drink promises to help me reduce my body fat and while I may not be one for health crazes and fad diets, I do eat a lot of snacks. So, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and see what all the fuss is about.
It has now been 20 minutes, and I am sorry to report that I am not any thinner than when I started. So much for the new summer me. Despite my disappointment, the overall experience has been a very pleasant one. The tea is light and aromatic, and a lovely drink for the summer months. It’s got a subtle bitterness from the green tea that soon disperses into the lovely, fragrant taste of jasmine. It’s not too heavy on the tea or too light on the jasmine, but instead, the flavors balance perfectly and leave you feeling refreshed and cheerful.
And I am still holding out hope that tomorrow I will wake up looking like a supermodel.
